FUELING THE DRIVE TO HYDROGEN SINCE 2004

HTEC Celebrates 20 Years of Innovation and Clean Energy Solutions

Vancouver, BC – Aug 23, 2024: HTEC, a leading provider of hydrogen solutions, proudly announces its 20th anniversary. Over the past two decades, HTEC has worked across the clean hydrogen value chain, developing, integrating and operating clean hydrogen energy solutions in strategic North American markets to enable the transportation sector’s transition to a low-carbon future.

“We are excited to celebrate 20 years in the industry and a significant milestone in HTEC’s history,” said Colin Armstrong, founding member and President and CEO of HTEC. “Our journey has been driven by a commitment to advancing hydrogen technology and providing solutions to drive positive environmental change. We are grateful to our dedicated team, investors, partners, and customers who have supported us throughout this incredible journey.”

Founded in 2004 in North Vancouver, British Columbia, HTEC has grown from a small start-up to a significant player in the hydrogen industry, with projects and partnerships spanning across North America.

In its early years, HTEC built and operated the first by-product hydrogen capture, purification and compression plant to support BC Hydrogen Highway projects, and partnered to help build and operate the world’s largest hydrogen fueling station for Whistler Transit. In 2018, it opened Canada’s first retail hydrogen station in Vancouver and engineered, procured and constructed a fully containerized, rapid-install fueling station for Toyota in Quebec City. Today, HTEC proudly operates and owns Canada’s first network of hydrogen refueling stations, and recently announced the H2 Gateway program, which will bring up to 20 more refuelling stations, three electrolyzers, a 15 tonnes per day liquefaction facility and 100 heavy-duty fuel cell electric trucks to Western Canada.

HTEC’s accolades includes a Canada’s Clean50 Top Project award (2020), recognition as a Foresight50 (one of Canada’s most investable cleantech ventures) and an award for Business Excellence in Innovation from the North Vancouver Chamber of Commerce. Armstrong is a Clean50 Award honouree and has been recognized as the Hydrogen Leader of the Year at the Canadian Hydrogen Convention Awards.

Additional quotes:
“I believe that hydrogen is one of the essential pillars in our transition to clean energy and I am delighted to be working with the talented team at HTEC in realizing this transition. HTEC’s past and present achievements catalyze progress in the hard-to-decarbonize transportation sector, and I look forward to future innovations HTEC will bring to Canada and the US.” – Peter Bradshaw, current chair of the HTEC board.

“We started as a group of enthusiastic green energy entrepreneurs with an ambitious vision of how we could make hydrogen a viable fuel alternative in the north American markets. I’m proud to see what HTEC has achieved under Colin’s leadership with the support of the board, and the projects HTEC has underway to bring hydrogen to the heavy-duty transportation sector. I wish them another 20 years of success.” – Rick Hopp, Business Consultant, co-founder of HTEC and current board director.
